Improving Homes, Block by Block

posted October 02, 2022

At the end of 2021, the Small Home Improvement Program was implemented. There was a need in the community for individuals on fixed and low incomes to have the assistance to pay for small home repairs, such as furnaces, water heaters, windows, etc. Wanting to fill the financial void, Northeast Community Fund partnered with Block by Block to address this need and to fund the home repairs.

Individuals seeking assistance complete an application that requires them to reach out to two businesses to obtain estimates on what the project will cost. Once the application is received and reviewed by Northeast Community Fund, it is also sent over to Block by Block for their approval. Individuals who receive help are asked to give back through volunteerism. This allows them to play a large role in bettering our community.

As of July 1st, 2022, 4 water heaters, 4 furnaces, 1 water line, 1 set of porch seps, 2 windows, 1 storm door, and 2 AC units have been repaired or replaced, with more applications being received weekly. Moving forward, we hope to be able to fully fund projects such as roofs, ramps, multiple windows, sewage pipes, and other unforeseen high-cost projects.
