Meet Shekila

Shekila Smith is Executive Director-CEO of Northeast Community Fund, where she leads the organization's work to strengthen families and expand access to resources and opportunities throughout the Decatur community. A community centered leader, Shekila brings nearly a decade of public sector experience in federal fundraising administration, nonprofit program oversight, and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Northeast Community Fund, Shekila served with the Illinois State Board of Education, where she supported federally funded Child Nutrition Programs and worked with schools, childcare organizations, and community-based organizations throughout Illinois. Her experience navigating complex public systems has given her a strong understanding of how funding, organizational systems, and community partnerships intersect to affect the needs they are intended to serve.

Shekila's leadership is grounded in collaboration, responsible stewardship, and the belief that strong organizations are built through both effective systems and meaningful relationships. She is passionate about strengthening community partnerships and expanding opportunities for individuals and families.

Shekila holds a Master of Public Administration and Policy Analysis and a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate and Organizational Communication. Her broader community involvement reflects her longstanding commitment to civic engagement, service, and the community she calls home.
